Revision Rhinoplasty

REVISION RHINOPLASTY INFORMATION FORM

WHAT IS REVISION RHINOPLASTY?
Revision rhinoplasty is an additional procedure needed when the shape of the nose is not as desired after one or more previous nose surgeries, or when the shape of the nose is altered due to external trauma.

HOW IS REVISION RHINOPLASTY PERFORMED?
In aesthetic nose surgeries, the shape of the nose is adjusted by using, repositioning, and reshaping the cartilage inside the nose. Since most of the cartilage inside the nose is used in the initial surgery, cartilage is often taken from the ear or rib in revision surgeries.

IS CARTILAGE USED IN REVISION RHINOPLASTY?
In revision rhinoplasty, grafts are often needed. Because the nasal septum cartilage has often been used or is insufficient from the previous surgery, it may be necessary to take cartilage from the ear or rib as needed. This can extend the duration of the surgery.

IS REVISION RHINOPLASTY RISKY?
Although the surgery is more complex for the surgeon, it does not have any more risks or dangers compared to the initial nose surgery. After revision surgery, you may experience complications similar to those of the first rhinoplasty, such as swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN REVISION RHINOPLASTY BE PERFORMED?
Incorrect doctor selection, faulty surgical techniques, or unhygienic operation conditions may necessitate another nose surgery. In such cases, a third or even fourth nose surgery is possible.

WHEN SHOULD REVISION RHINOPLASTY BE PERFORMED?
It is recommended to wait at least 6 months to fully understand the outcome of the initial surgery, as it takes at least 4 months for the swelling and scabs inside the nose to subside. The ideal waiting period for a second or further surgery after nose operations is between 10 to 12 months.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY RECOVERY PROCESS
The patient may experience side effects such as swelling, bruising, and pain. The surgeon will prescribe painkillers for the pain. Swelling and bruising will subside over time. In some cases, full recovery can take 7-8 months, and in larger operations, it can exceed 1 year.

POST-REVISION RHINOPLASTY CARE
For the first 15 days, lay on your back with your head elevated and avoid letting your nose touch the pillow. Do not lift heavy objects or bend forward during this period. Do not blow your nose for 15 days. Do not interfere with the stitches or scabs inside the nose.

HOW LONG DOES REVISION RHINOPLASTY TAKE?
Corrective revision nose aesthetics surgeries are performed in 2-4 hours depending on the technique and application. The duration can vary between 2-4 hours depending on the changes, adjustments, and aesthetic procedures to be performed.
