OPEN RHINOPLASTY INFORMATION FORM
WHAT IS OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
Nose aesthetics, or rhinoplasty, is a plastic surgery operation that involves making changes to the bone and cartilage structures inside the nose. The open surgery technique is widely preferred by physicians.
WHY CHOOSE OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
Open rhinoplasty offers a wide field of view during surgery. It allows for comfortable and secure stitching and shaping, effective bleeding control, and the ability to perform the surgery with direct vision of the tissues in their normal, natural positions. The successful and safe application in difficult cases such as crooked noses has made open rhinoplasty popular worldwide.
HOW IS OPEN RHINOPLASTY PERFORMED?
In open rhinoplasty, incisions are made on the inner surface of the columella, the tissue that separates the nostrils, and on the inside of the nasal wings. This method allows the skin of the nose to be lifted from the bridge of the nose.
WILL THERE BE SCARS FROM OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
There will be a scar on the columella with the open technique, but it is temporary. This scar is not visible from the front and rarely bothers people.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE SCAR TO DISAPPEAR?
Depending on patient care and the surgery, the scar will heal on its own in approximately two weeks to two months. During this period, the scar will become less noticeable.
HOW LONG DOES OPEN RHINOPLASTY TAKE?
The duration of a rhinoplasty operation varies depending on the procedures to be performed. For instance, correcting only the nasal tip may take 30-45 minutes, while correcting the nasal bridge, nasal tip, and airway may take 90-120 minutes.
OPEN RHINOPLASTY RECOVERY PROCESS
Five to seven days after the nose surgery, most of the swelling will subside. Complete resolution of nasal edema and the nose achieving its final shape can take 6 to 12 months for those with thin nasal skin, while it may take 1 to 2 years for those with thick nasal skin.
IS OPEN RHINOPLASTY PAINFUL?
Nose aesthetics surgeries are not painful. They require a nasal splint for 7 days and nasal packing for 2 days.
WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
Individuals with bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia, may not be candidates for nose aesthetics. During the process, the doctor will perform a complete physical examination, including blood tests and other laboratory tests, and examine the candidate’s facial features and the inside and outside of their nose.
WHO SHOULD HAVE OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
It is preferred for individuals who have not had previous nose surgeries. Rhinoplasty is suitable for individuals over 18 years of age. Closed rhinoplasty is recommended for those with a drooping nasal tip or a collapsed nasal bone.
POST-OPEN RHINOPLASTY CARE
For the first 15 days, lay on your back with your head elevated and avoid letting your nose touch the pillow. Do not lift heavy objects or bend forward during this period. Do not blow your nose for 15 days. Do not interfere with the stitches or scabs inside the nose.
WHAT TO AVOID AFTER OPEN RHINOPLASTY?
In the first 48 to 72 hours, apply cold compresses to the eyes intermittently (10 to 15 minutes every hour). Avoid physical activity as much as possible and rest with your head elevated for 5 days post-surgery. Avoid excessive facial expressions and laughing for one week.
